Visiting Scholars: Gloria H. Cuádraz and Yolanda Flores: “Claiming Home, Shaping Community: Testimonios de los Valles”
The editors highlight the transformative power of higher education on the working class in this talk based on their new book, “Claiming Home, Shaping Community: Testimonios de los Valles,” published by University of Arizona Press. The book (available at the talk) tells the stories of Mexican-descent people who left rural agricultural valleys to pursue higher education at a University of California campus, seeking to empower others on their journeys to and through higher education. Gloria H. Cuádraz is an associate professor of sociology at Arizona State University, a member of the Latina Feminist Group, and co-author of Telling to Live: Latina Feminist Testimonios. Yolanda Flores is an associate professor at the University of Vermont. Her most recent book is The Drama of Gender: Feminist Theater by Women of the Americas.
