Everything Is
Recent work by Kayelynn Welsh

November 13 - 16, 2018
Reception: Thursday, Nov. 15, 6-8 p.m.

I feel (rather frequently)...I want to scream.
I want to scream but have been told I cannot.
I cannot because I have believed what I have been told.
To contain this force and continue to exist is to be pulled in every direction at once.
I have found it to be unbearable.
I have also found it to be inescapable.
It is out of desperation then that I create.
There is solace in the action and repetition of process.
Line, color, and material stand in for the tones of human speech.
The work comes to resemble the tension that brought it into being.
Through visceral forms, juxtaposition of color and texture, and heavy use of line I am attempting to find a way to give myself a voice. This exhibition will be a collection of recent work resulting from this attempt.

I think a lot about perception. How I perceive myself and the world around me. How I am perceived by others and the world. How we perceive ourselves and our world collectively. How remarkably limited this perception is yet how it forms our individual and collective reality. I’m interested in the things this causes us to take for granted and the things it causes us to believe. My work is focused on examination, honesty, empathy, and reverence for life in all its forms.
